5 days in Boston

5 days in a foreign Country, in a foreign city -by myself has taught me a lot of things about myself, about what I’m capable of doing… but that’s not what this post will talk about. 5 days in Boston made me learn a few things about the beautiful city.

It’s NOT a party city. You might find places where you can party, for sure. But if you go there with the mindset that you’ll meet people ready to party at every corner; you might be a bit dissapointed. It’s a business city. It’s quiet. A few girls I had to share a room with at the hostel were studying and had to get up early in the morning. Am I saying you can’t have fun if you go to Boston? Absolutely not. In my defense, I was there from monday to friday (who knows what happens on friday or saturday night, right? )

The prices… It can be a little bit expensive. If you spend a few days in Boston, try to find a small market or grocery store where you can buy food and, if you’re staying at a hostel; you can cook every night. Cheaper! Eating out is fine too, especially if you want to try a few local restaurants. (Uno Dué Go is amazing!)

I can’t talk about Boston without talking about my favorite moment. Ever heard of Fenway Park? This is the oldest baseball stadium in the USA. If you have the chance to go to a Red Sox game; DO IT! To be honest, I didn’t know anything about baseball when I bought the ticket, a few months prior. But I went, anyway. Thanks to the amazing people I met on my way to the ball game (Ok, I got lost, they invited me to stick with them.) If you take the metro, Fenway Park is just a few steps away from Kenmore. If you don’t have the chance to go to a ball game, you have to take an hour or two just to walk around Fenway Park, or even visit the stadium when it’s possible. It’s such a cool vibe, like the 50s! If you do go to a Red Sox game, you might wanna bring a jacket, been there, done that. 😉

What about transport? I honestly walked most of the time because my hostel was close to anything I wanted to see (talk about saving money and having killer calves!) If you don’t feel like walking, the metro, or the ‘T’, as Bostonians call it, is a good way to go from A to B. One ticket is 2,75$ which I think is a reasonable price. The map is pretty easy to read, you just want to make sure before using the ticket that it’s the right direction. There is a thing called ”Inbound” and ”Outbound” one goes in a certain direction and the other goes in the other direction. If you take the wrong one, you need to go back outside, walk for a bit and take the other direction. Which means you have to pay again. You can also take a day-pass or a weekly-pass. Visiting Boston is pretty easy, whether it’s by walk or Train.

Is there something I disliked about Boston? Kind of. Like any other city in the world, you meet nice people that will start a conversation with you and some that will just ignore you. Overall, people were okay. I’m the kind of person that will smile at a store employee when I buy something… They didn’t even say ‘hi’. Don’t let that stop you from visiting the city, though. As I said, it’s a business city for the most part; people are busy. There are nice people there. I won’t forget about the tour guide (Hi, Steve!) who made fun of me because of the rivalry between our hockey teams. A really nice man who helped me find my way back to the hostel after the tour because it was raining really hard and he didn’t want me to walk all the way back. So sweet!

Last but not least. What’s the one neighborhood you NEED to visit if you go to Boston? BEACON. HILL. It’s so close to Boston Common. In fact, it’s right next to it. The streets there are beyond amazing. It’s so full of history. With small streets and old houses. A few tips if you want to spend an hour walking around this beautiful neighborhood: you need a pair of good shoes! Walking around Beacon Hill can make it seem like you’re working out, seriously. That’s also why I’m going to say, watch your step. 🙂 It’s such a nice place to visit and to take pictures!

It wasn’t that sunny when I visited, unfortunately. It was either rainy, cloudy or cold. Which is dissapointing for the end of May, but I loved this city nonetheless. A few people in Boston or at home asked me if I liked my visit to Boston. Absolutely. If you want to visit a nice and full of history place, whether it’s by yourself or with family, Boston is a nice place to go! Lots of activities, lots of nice restaurants, a great and affordable hostel (Hi Hostel Boston, check it out!) and you can see and do alot in 3 days.

Enjoy! 🙂
